Katherine’s 1st Birthday Party!

30 Jun

We celebrated Katherine’s first birthday this past Saturday.  I can’t believe how fast the time has gone.  In 6 days she will be one!

No birthday theme, just an afternoon full of color and fun and lots of hot dogs and ice cream and cake.  And a bounce house of course.  We had about 45 people in attendance, lots of family and some close friends.  All in all it was a fabulous day!  Kath has been teething lately and has been off for a few weeks sleep-wise (damn you leap 7!) but thankfully she was well-rested for receiving guests.

We did a hot dog bar with all the fixins’, pasta salad and potato salad (courtesy of my mother-in-law), a sundae bar, and delicious cupcakes and sweet treats made by Corey’s cousin.  I think I spent five minutes total talking to people – it’s time consuming hosting these gigs!  But…well worth it.  After all, your baby girl only turns one once!

13 Weeks/3 Months Old

7 Oct

Katherine turned 3 months old this weekend!  I can’t believe how fast our girl is growing.  She has changed so much since she was born and especially in the last couple of weeks.  She has started smiling a lot more and I am getting quite a few coos and even a belly laugh on Friday!  It was so awesome.  I couldn’t stop grinning.  There is nothing like hearing your baby laugh, I can’t even describe it.  So amazeballs.  I love, love, love waking up my happy girl every morning.  She’s always ready to start the day with smiles.

We have fallen into a pretty steady routine here at home.  She wakes up between 6 and 7am, naps in the early morning around 8 or 9, then is up for most of the late morning and early afternoon.  Naps again in early/late afternoon.  It’s 2:30 right now and she’s been snoozing for about the last hour.  She naps again in early evening (she naps a lot).  We give her a big, fat bottle (4-6 oz) between 7:30 and 9pm and then she’s down for the count.  Baby Girl will sleep anywhere from 3-4 hours at a time throughout the night.  We do get the occasional 5,6, or even 8 (!!!) hour stretches but 3-4 seems to be the average.  I am okay with this.  It’s long enough to actually feel rested when I do have to get up.

What else, what else.  We are working on our tummy time.  She does great with tummy time on me.  I lay her on my chest and she pushes and pumps and holds her head up super high like such a big girl!  I mean…what’s next?  A car?  I love seeing her hold her head up and looking all around and taking in the world.  Everything is so fresh and new for her.  I love it.  Anyway…tummy time.  I have seen other moms do tummy time on the boppy so I thought we’d mix it up and give it a go.  You can see it started off well.  Looking around, super curious:

Then, about two minutes later, the shit hit the fan.

She was PISSED.  Like, inconsolable pissed.  Like mama what did you do to me pissed.  She scream-cried for about ten minutes straight then passed the fuck out.

It was awful and I felt like the world’s biggest asshole.  I have not attempted boppy tummy time again.  Regular play mat/mama belly time will have to do for now.  I also failed to realize that she was lounging in her bouncy, all vision-impaired and shit, because of the bow I insisted on her wearing when my cousins came to visit.

Uhm yah.  Mama’s on a roll this week, huh Katherine?

This last week was full of meet and greets as well.  Baby Girl’s dance card was FULL these last few days.  My cousins Gionna and Chandra and Chandra’s girls came up to visit on Thursday.  We hung out at the house and got all caught up on each other’s lives.  This weekend we went to three birthday parties!  First stop was Boomers for a classmate of Audrey’s.  It was insane, the noise, and she actually slept through the first twenty minutes or so.  Saturday night we attended a family friend’s 30th birthday party, and Sunday afternoon we headed down to Vista for my cousin Adam’s son’s 5th birthday.  It was a crazy fun (and hectic) weekend.  It was awesome to introduce Katherine to so many people but I think we were both ready to get back to the steady grind.  Amen, sister.  Amen.
